Record of Service
The record of service implies notification of a document to a person in a particular laid-down manner. In this case notification implies that by handing over the document the recipient is given the opportunity to take notice of its content.
There are various methods of service:
- Service by a records clerk
- Service by mail
- Service by record
In principle the document may be handed to the recipient at any location where he is found to be present.
If the recipient is not available the document may be handed to any adult family member present (spouses, partners, co-tenants).
If nobody is available the document is considered served by putting it into the letterbox.
If the recipient is a businessman the document is served by handing it to the owner of the business or his representative (e.g. the manager). Service may also take place by handing the document to an employee.
